Tim Robbins
Bull Durham, Shawshank Redemption and Mystic River are on Rachael's list of all-time favorite movies, so she's giddy about having Tim Robbins stop by for some kitchen-table chat!
He talks about his latest film, Catch a Fire, which was shot in South Africa and is the true-life story of one man's quest for freedom during the turbulent days of apartheid in the 1980's. Rachael honeymooned there and loved it, but Tim's visit almost turned disastrous. "I went to a braai, which is a big barbeque, in the middle of a nature reserve so animals were all around and the guy who was building the fire wasn't being careful. We were off looking at the sunset and we smelled smoke -- he had set the underbrush on fire!" he recalls.
Asked about which of his films are his favorite, Tim says, "Robert Altman once said, 'It's kind of like children. You love the ones that get ignored the most.' So I kind of love this film I did called Cradle Will Rock." Not to be confused with The Handle That Rocks The Cradle, as Rachael did!
When the audience gets to ask Tim a few questions, a viewer wants to know what the most romantic thing fellow Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon has done for him. "The most romantic thing," Tim answers, "is to have two children and raise another with her. It has really been an honor and a privilege."
How did Susan recently surprise her long time beau? "I was out in LA for the premiere," Tim explains, "and invited a lot of my friends for the party afterwards. Someone came up to me and said a bunch of people were going to go to this bar and I looked around and none of my friends had shown up. I was pretty bummed out so we went to the bar and she had gotten all my friends and thrown a surprise party for me."
