Post Baby-Body Blues with Valerie Bertinelli
"I had a post-baby problem for, oh, I don't know, 17 years," Valerie Bertinelli tells Rachael. "My body did things that I never thought it would do when I had Wolfie." And worst of all, nobody was talking about these problems, leaving Valerie shocked by how little she was told about the post-pregnancy experience. Hoping to change that for other new moms, Valerie heads to a spa with three women for some pampering and honest talk about their bodies, sex lives, and their pregnancy surprises. "No one tells you about anything," laments Michelle, a 32-year-old mom who is surprised that one year after she gave birth her body is still different. "I've lost the pregnancy weight but it's like, what happened? ... You're wearing the same clothes but everything fits differently."
Another change that the moms get candid about is how their breasts got a boost during pregnancy, but it didn't last. "The gravity has taken over. It's really bad," Michelle says. Carrie, 36, agrees. "I dream about having a little enhancement done," she says. "I breast-fed for three years. It's not pretty."
The most shocking admission comes from Dawn, a mom of two who was stunned by one new development during her pregnancies: "The spontaneous farting!" she admits. "You're waddling around and you're talking to your friends and then all of a sudden -- you go!"
All of the moms agree that the trade-offs are worth it. "You can't even compare it," Dawn says. "These are your war scars and we wear them, we wear them proud .... you wish you had no scars and you wish you still looked the way you did, but you got your kid."
Valerie says while it's important to love yourself regardless of your physique, there's no reason to suffer! So she reveals her favorite slimming trick: Spanx. "I live by these," Valerie admits. "When I started my diet I used a large and now I'm in a small but I don't care. I lost 40 pounds and I'm still wearing them." She then offers the three moms a lifetime supply, and gives samples to the whole audience.
