A Cancer Fighting Chef
When Pnina Peled brings room service to her culinary fans, she's doing more than just offering a meal - she's bringing love and encouragement to the young cancer patients and their relatives at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. "To be able to bring the comfort back to the families through food, is what I aspire to," the hospital's executive chef explains. And, she gets kids involved in the process. She offers cooking demos, like pizza making, to make food fun again for these children, whose appetites may be compromised by their treatments. "I have a portable kitchen!" Pnina says. While she is working to nourish these young people, she sweetly explains that they end up feeding her spirit. "I get a lot of thank you cards," she says, "I post them on my wall in my office ... It's like fuel for me! It keeps me going."
