Whiskey Brisket Sandwich
You want to play up the whiskey notes in the brisket (or at least I do!), but drinking a straight spirit isn't always the best for pairing with food (or for having a long night!). That's where a great cocktail can come in as a perfect drink pairing. I love the Old Fashioned Cocktail to pair with Rachael's Whiskey Brisket Sandwiches. The Bourbon in the julep will play off the whiskey in the sandwiches nicely, and the mint and ice will be a refreshing component to the heavier parts of this dish. Plus, it’s such an easy cocktail with only 4 ingredients:
• Bourbon, 3 ounces
• Mint, 6 sprigs
• Simple Syrup, 1 ounce
• Ice, crushed
Put 5 sprigs of mint, sugar, and 1 ounce of bourbon into the bottom of a mixing glass. Gently muddle the mint and sugar, then let stand for a bit to allow the muddled leaves to release their flavor. Strain and pour into a julep cup (or similar vessel), rotating to coat the sides. Fill with ice, then add the rest of the bourbon whiskey. Garnish with a lightly slapped small mint sprig.
